YouTube is part of the Google Empire, and will collect information on what you watch, pelt you with non-stop commercials, all whilst delisting some content creators, and even worse perhaps,
demonetizing others. Demonetizing means that the content creators will not longer be paid for their contributions that bring viewers to YouTube. YouTube will keep right on making money on the
videos, but they will not pass any of that money along. Seems not only cynical but also hypocritical. “This gray area offends our sensibilities---you can not make money on it. But we will!”
The options are to keep using YouTube but deny YouTube the benefits of those views, and/or to go to alternate sites for videos.
To demonetize YouTube:
- If using FireFox for a Browser and with the Privacy Redirect add-in enabled, YouTube videos can be watched without YouTube knowing who is watching them, and ads are gone to boot. Sometimes
you may need to refresh once or twice to get it to work.
- If using other browsers, the same result can be brought about by going to this site
- When doing this the creators, if they have not been demonitized by YouTube already, will not get anything. Think about a recurring donation to the creators one way or another.
If you are tired of going through another tech giant and them taking their cut, how about a check to a postal address once a quarter?
- Note that free speech means that others are free to talk about things you do not like. And some of the videos that show up may not be to your liking. The key is to find channels that you
do like and subscribe to them. Then when you visit you will be most likely to avoid anything disagreeable.
